Riding Into History 2009
So the Riding into History event for 2009 turned out to be very eventful as always. The grand marshals Craig Vetter and Dennis Gage were present for seminars and photo ops. Dennis Gage and his entourage were working on a new segment for their “Tripping Back in Time” show on Speed TV. No word on its release date. Keep an eye out and check your local listings.
The turnout for competitors and spectators alike was up for 2009, and there was plenty to see and plenty of traffic. The weather was excellent, and the World Golf Village very accommodating. The event was held on May 16, 2009. At 10:00 AM there was a ride to some dealers in St. Augustine for the Buddy Check 12 charity. It started early with many entries being rolled into the area that surrounds the large water fountain/lake of the World Golf Village complex. The judges spent the day going over the many entries and accomplishing the very difficult task of selecting the award-winning entries.
The awards ceremony began at three and the many trophies awarded to the lucky owners and their labors of love. The event has free entry to anyone who enters a motorcycle, and they also receive a commemorative gift of a folding chair with the “Riding into History” logo printed on the chair back. Many of the entrants travel from the far reaches of the globe.
At the end of the day, many stay for the Biker’s Ball. This is a party that has a silent auction for the charity, dinner, dancing, and a theme. This year's theme was “Ride ‘Em Biker Cowboys”. The ball is hosted by the grand marshals, and a good time is had by all.
The next morning, there was a charity ride to historic St. Augustine for a Sunday brunch. It is excellent to see the many antique motorcycles in a large group riding through the historical city streets of St. Augustine.
We have included photos for you to see this great event and hope to see you there next year.
Here's hoping to give you a wave from the oncoming lane.
