Failed Zipper

Do you have and leather jacket with a broken sipper handle?  I had this problem, but friend of mine told me about a quickfix.  Some of the older jackets have very good zippers in them, but sometimes the handle gives out early.  If you have experience this, there is a quick remedy.

Find heavy duty small paperclip it should be able to fit to the hole of the zipper catch.  Place the paperclip through the hole then place a small piece of heat shrink tubing  over the paperclip apply heat to the heat shrink tubing to form a tight fit over the paper clip.   In a matter of minutes you will have a new handle to use your old zipper proficiently.  I have used this on an old Hein Gerike jacket with great success.  This is much cheaper than replacing the zipper for one that's working rather well.  The smaller and heavier duty the paperclip the longer it will last, and the tighter the fit of the shrink tubing the longer it will stay on the paperclip.

I would like to thank Rick “the Ironman” for this tip and helping me save one of my favorite leather jackets for many more years of use.

Here is hoping to give you a wave from the oncoming Lane.
